Flareon description

Flareon, The Flame Pokémon.

Inhaled air is heated in the flame sac in its body to an intense fire over 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a flame sac in its body. Its body temperature tops 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit before battle. It fluffs out its fur collar to cool down its body temperature
Overview
Flareon
Here we go, the worst of the worst. “GIVE IT FLARE BLITZ” as if that'd actually get it some use. Welcome to Flareon, the absolute worst Eeveelution. An awesome 130 Attack, but terrible Speed. Good abilities, nothing to back them up. Flareon has no movepool. It can run a mixed set, but that's practically it. Its strongest physical Fire move is Fire Fang. FIRE FANG. 65 base power is its strongest physical STAB move? Ridiculous. 5th gen did give it Flame Charge, which is an awesome move (one of my favourites), but it doesn't stop Flareon from kissing the dirt constantly. At best it can be an alright mixed sweeper, but that is at its very best. Bad stat distribution, dire movepool, and honestly a pretty bad typing all adds up to an over ambitious delusion of grandeur.

Abilities
Flash Fire: you're immune to Fire moves, and if hit by one, the power of your own Fire moves are multiplied by 1.5x. Most importantly, you're immune to Will-O-Wisp, which would otherwise make Flareon even more useless.
Guts: oh dear. A good ability... but not on Flareon. You can't be hit with burn, which is the ideal status to be hit with if you have Guts. Toxic Orb is an option I guess but... I dunno, I like Flash Fire more.
Movesets
Mixeon
- Superpower
- Overheat / Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Grass] / Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball / Return
Item Attached: Life Orb / Expert Belt / Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 92 Atk / 252 SAtk / 164 Spd
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def) / Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
Wall breaking set... if nothing else, Flareon can hit hard. Base 130 Attack and base 95 Special Attack which is cute. Superpower uses Flareon's awesome Attack perfectly, and it helps to break down stuff like Chansey. The Fire move is up to you. Overheat hits crazy hard, but you pretty much have to switch out or start using physical moves after it is used. Fire Blast is the happy medium between power and accuracy, whereas Flamethrower is the weakest yet most accurate. [Grass] means you can break down Water/Grounds, and [Ice] helps out with Altaria and scum. Shadow Ball gets amazing coverage with Superpower, whereas Return is your strongest attack outside ofSuperpower and special moves.
Life Orb gives a guaranteed damage boost at the cost of 10% HP a turn. Expert Belt gets 1.2x damage on any hit that's super effective. Choice Scarf gives no offensive bonuses, but gives Flareon some much needed Speed.
Flame Charge????
- Flame Charge
- Return
- Superpower
- Overheat / Fire Blast
Item Attached: Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 Atk / 12 SAtk / 244 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
A sweeper Flareon? Yeah, Flame Charge is easily Flareon's best physical Fire option, thanks to its Speed increasing effect. Return has 102 power and pretty good neutral coverage. Superpower is an awesome physical attack, but be careful to save it for what you need to use it on, as the -Attack and -Defence can cripple you. Overheat is hugely powerful, whereas Fire Blast is for repeated use.
Wish
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
Something Flareon has over... every other Fire type I think? Is Wish, and acceptable defences... well, its Special Defence is good at least! Flamethrower hits hard, it's reliable, it's the best move for the set. Toxic gets really good coverage with Flamethrower, as the only Pokémon immune to both moves is Heatran, who you won't see (unless you're using Flareon in OU for some reason). Wish keeps you and your team healed, and Protect stalls WishToxic, and PP.
EVs & Natures
Trying to help Flareon's dire stats 101
For an offensive set, you'll want to focus on your main attacking stat. If you're using mostly physical attacks, dump your EVs into Attack, and into Special Attack for mostly special moves. In terms of Speed... Flareon lacks it. 249 Speed with Flame Charge or Choice Scarf means you beat positive base 120s. 164 EVs (which is 207 Speed) means you beat minimum Speed Cresselia and other base 85s. For the Wish set, you'll be focusing on Special Defence and HP.
Other Options
Flareon
Pick one.
Charm can protect you from physical attacks until they switch out.
Heal Bell gives Flareon another niche, but it's not a good one. Therapists need to switch in and out a lot, and Flareon is Stealth Rock weak.
Will-O-Wisp burns, which is always nice.
Work Up can be used with Flame Charge for a mixed sweeper set, but really, who is going to let you set up that much?
Double & Triple Battle Options
Oh Jesus, don't even bother. Weak to Surf, weak to Earthquake, weak to Rock Slide, its most effective attack is Heat Wave and some Flash Fire combos... it's outclassed by so many other Fires I can't be bothered to count. It'd take a year. A YEAR. I guess it works with sun...
Partners
Ninetales can really power up Flareon with Drought. You want Waters and Rocks removed as soon as possible, so partnering Flareon with a Grass Pokémon like Celebi is a good tactic. That also draws in Fire moves for you to absorb. Lanturn works well too I guess, as it takes on both Waters and Rocks easily with its handy STAB moves. Flygon resists Rock and Ground, and is generally handy for taking on scumbags with its base 100 Attack and great coverage. Zapdos takes out bulky Waters and hovers over Ground attacks, making it a good switch in. I guess you could Baton Pass Agility to Flareon from a good AgiliPasser, if you really wanted to sweep with it.
Countering Flareon
Bulky Waters are the main counters here. Quagsire, Milotic, Slowbro, Lanturn, whatever. You can't damage them much, and they beat you in one or two hits. Watch out for the Toxic Wish set, that'll stall you dead. Golem and other Rock Grounds switch into Flareon really well, save for Hidden Power [Grass], and then they OHKO you. Flareon's biggest weakness is its typing. It is weak to Stealth Rock and on the ground so gets hit by Spikes and Toxic Spikes. This really hampers its ability to be both an offensive and defensive threat. I'd normally make a list of counters, but there isn't any need to. Bulky Waters, Rocks, other Fires do well, priority murders Flareon's bad HP and Defence (especially Aqua Jet, but even Mach Punch decimates you), and finally entry hazards. Flareon has so much difficulty doing well that it honestly isn't worth the effort trying. Outclassed by more or less every other Fire type, so few usable moves it is an on going joke, bad Speed, I'm not going to keep beating the same drum. Flareon is pretty much the worst of the Eeeveelutions, so... on the bright side, it's all uphill from here!
